BIOGRAPHY
Stu Watts is a seasoned musician, songwriter, producer and engineer who has been creating meaningful, authentic music for over two decades.
With a passion for music starting at a young age, he excelled as a drummer and guitarist. He cut his teeth in bands The Playbook and The Spinset (among others), earning national airplay on Triple J and Triple M, touring relentlessly and sharing the stage with numerous high-profile local and international acts.
Stu obtained an Advanced Diploma in Music Industry Skills (Technical Production) in 2011, sharpening his auditory skills and quick decision-making while also becoming a sought after live sound engineer, working at some of Melbourne's premier venues such as The Corner Hotel, The Evelyn, Cherry Bar and more.
These days Stu spends his time in the studio as a producer, engineer & songwriter, working with hundreds of artists and bands, amassing over 7 million Spotify streams on his catalogue. His love for rock and pop music, down-to-earth approach and honest communication consistently yield results of the highest quality.
As Head Sound Engineer at Marshall Street Studios, Stu has worked with many renowned international and homegrown artists, such as Lil Mosey, Clariyah Bo$$, Byg Boy Jay, Bukowski and Willowbank Grove. He is passionate about music education, giving artist coaching courses, mix lessons and hosting school field trips.
In August 2022, Stu launched his podcast, What's That Sound?, which features real-world advice and insights in interviews with some of the top Australian producers and engineers, and is available on all platforms.
