BIOGRAPHY

Stu Watts is a seasoned musician, producer, and sound engineer who has been creating meaningful, authentic music for over two decades.

 

With a passion for music beginning at a young age, he excelled as a drummer and guitarist, and would go on to secure national airplay on Triple J and Triple M airplay with his bands The Playbook and The Spinset, while sharing the stage with impressive international acts such as The Story So Far, Neck Deep, and Real Friends.

Stu leveraged his technical expertise, obtaining an Advanced Diploma in Music Industry Skills (Technical Production) in 2011, honing his ear for frequencies and quick decision-making skills while becoming a sought-after live sound engineer, working at some of Melbourne's premier venues such as The Corner Hotel, The Evelyn, Cherry Bar and more.

Currently focused on producing and studio engineering, Stu has worked closely with over 100 artists and bands to create premium music products, amassing over 5.5 million Spotify streams on his catalogue. His down to earth approach and honest feedback consistently yield high-quality results.

 

As Head Sound Engineer at Marshall Street Studios, Stu has worked with many renowned international and local artists, such as Lil Mosey, Clariyah Bo$$, Byg Boy Jay, Bukowski and MOBS. He is also committed to music education, hosting podcasts, artist coaching courses, mix lessons, workshops, and school field trips. Listen to his work on Spotify.

In August 2022, Stu launched his podcast, What's That Sound?, which features real-world advice and insights in interviews with some of the top Australian producers and engineers, and is available on all platforms.
